SJ5000+ Battery life

Early adopters of the SJCAM SJ5000+ reported poor battery life. Mine arrived with firmware 1.7 loaded and after running batteries through several charge/discharge cycles videoed my watch (indoors at about 17 degrees C). Settings were 1080 60p screen, LEDs and wifi turned off. The battery ran out after 59 minutes. When I've really nothing better to do I'll run some tests on time lapse and on my other two batteries to see if there is any variation. Please feel free to add your own battery test results in comments

  1. Just bought two XCSource 1,100 Mah Batteries off Amazon ($13 including charger). Been hearing that these extend runtime by quite a bit. Hopefully they're actually 1100mah and not fraudulently rebranded stock 900mah batteries.

  2. Let us know how you get on. Are they heavier than 900s? More inside is a good sign. Some knockoff Canon DSLR batteries I bought were rubbish and really light.

  3. I'll report back when I receive them. Was thinking about weighing them as well.

  5. They're definitely 1100 Mah, which is a big upgrade from the 900 Mah of the stock batteries (Weight is 18 grams vs 15 grams stock). They seem to last about 30% longer than the stock batteries. I now get about 85 minutes of battery life out of my 5000+ at 1080p30 with LED's off, screen off, Wifi off, and firmware 1.7. Decent price off Amazon and comes with a desktop charger. Overall, I'm very pleased.

  6. I have been testing the XCSource batteries. Firstly the '900' with '750' on the inside, I got 550 mAh and then with the XCSource I got 750mAh - this related however to 35 mins (SJCAM '900') versus 55-60 minutes with XCSource, so definitely worth having. Thats an early SJ4000 I think its genuine, but it does not have SJCAM written on it.

    1. Oh to qualify, that was on a balanced LiPo charger, using their charge / discharge - so I don't know exactly how accurate that device is.
